Nomisma has traditionally directed is research activities towards economic analysis of sectors and enterprises, concentrating on aspects relating to production and applying an essentially supply-side approach to economic phenomena. In order to investigate economic developments more closely from a demand perspective, Nomisma established in 1996 its Commerce and Consumer patterns unit to focus more particularly on the dynamics of consumption and trade. In recent years, attention has been directed towards the structural dynamics of Italian distribution, the evolution of consumption models and patterns of purchasing behaviour.
