Nomisma has developed skills on transport economics and policy, regional planning and spatial development. The Unit deals with feasibility studies, also involving infrastructure projects, sectoral studies, establishment of observatories and technical assistance. Projects are developed for public administrations, public and private companies and national trade associations.

A strong relationship has been built up with urban planners, architecture and transport engineering firms and consultancies, and with financial advisors, in order to manage major feasibility studies from the pre-assessment to the preliminary design phase. This allows Nomisma to participate to national and international tenders through highly qualified consortia.

Since 1999 Nomisma has published, in cooperation with Federtrasporto (the main Italian trade association for the trasport and logistic industry), a report on the internationalisation of transport sector at a global level, based on the monitoring of worldwide M&A operations and agreements.

In June 2007 Nomisma has joined the European project KITE (A Knowledge Base for Intermodal Passenger Travel in Europe) as National Expert for Italy. KITE is financed by the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) and is expected to end in November 2008.
