Nomos & Khaos 2017 Nomisma Economic and Strategic Outlook

The eleventh edition of Nomos & Khaos is edited by Andrea E. Goldstein and Julia K. Culver with contributions from 20 authors. The volume analyses the main phenomena that influence constantly evolving world events.

The last 25 years have witnessed an acceleration of networks, interconnectivity, and new opportunities due to globalisation, but also the emergence of previously unknown risks. In a world where anxieties about the speed of change are increasing and where instability seems to grow exponentially, the ability to understand such phenomena is clearly the key to competitive advantage for countries, businesses, and organisations. In particular, Nomos & Khaos's 2017 edition analyses the consequences of the globalisation of authoritarianism, populism, and terrorism, demons that are undermining the ideals of liberal democracy on which the West has built its success and to which the middle classes of developing countries have long aspired. The conclusion is evident - there is increasingly more Chaos and less and less Nomos.
